To carry out our mission with art, culture, nature, and cultural heritage, our core operations consist of two departments: Art and Culture, and Nature and Cultural Heritage, with each department divided into several units. In the Nature and Cultural Heritage department, there are six museums and visitor destinations managed by the administration. To coordinate cross-cutting issues across the administration, we work in a matrix, which includes our work with municipalities, children and youth, collective administration, and Agenda 2030.

About Vitlycke Museum

Vitlycke Museum is a knowledge and experience center for the World Heritage Site of Tanum's rock carvings near Tanumshede.

The museum is an international destination and operates both outdoors at the World Heritage rock carving areas, in the Bronze Age farm, and inside the building. Vitlycke Museum will be open seasonally from April 1 to October 30, 2026. Our mission includes working with information, programs, tours, and knowledge development based on the World Heritage Convention and the rock carvings.

Our program activities aim to make it easy to get to know and learn more about the rock carvings and increase accessibility to the World Heritage Site. The museum thus serves as a visitor portal for the World Heritage Site. The starting point is the Bronze Age and the rock carving images, but it spans an 8,000-year-long epoch of human presence in the World Heritage area. We strive for authenticity and to create a sense of community in our operations, a living cultural environment, and actively work to develop our core knowledge area during the upcoming period.

Job Responsibilities

We are now looking for a museum host for an 80% position with a team leader function for the 2026 season, during the period of 2026-02-09 to 2026-10-04.

The team-leading responsibilities include, but are not limited to, guidance and coordination of tasks for hosts and summer hosts in daily operations. You will also assist with reception and entrance services. The position will involve working evenings and weekends.

As a museum host, you will work to convey and bring to life our cultural heritage, which includes showing the rock carvings and the Bronze Age farm, educational programs, and other public activities. Our season has two phases:

In April and May, the work focuses on our educational programs aimed at elementary school grade 3. The programs include both guided tours and hands-on activities in the Bronze Age farm.

After that, the workdays will be characterized by guided tours of, among other things, the Vitlycke rock and other parts of the World Heritage Site. In the Bronze Age farm, you will meet visitors, lead groups, showcase environments and buildings, and plan and conduct craft demonstrations. Together with your colleagues, you will be responsible for planning activities in the farm and also guide summer hosts in showcasing simpler crafts and hands-on activities. You will also help maintain the farm and any animals.

You will assist visitors with information, general service, and be an important part of the museum's hospitality work. The position includes making the museum's activities visible on social media. Other tasks may be added as needed.

Qualifications

You have post-secondary education with a focus on archaeology or cultural history.

You enjoy working with people, providing service, and have documented experience in leading groups of various ages, working pedagogically, and guiding groups in Swedish and English.

The nature of the work requires the ability to work independently and to be a good communicator. You contribute to good collaboration in our workgroup and work with the goal of providing excellent service to the museum's visitors. We will place great emphasis on personal qualities.

As the museum is a small organization, you need to be prepared to work with tasks across all parts of our operations as needed.

Before an employment agreement, we would like you to present an extract from the criminal record. Extracts for work with children in other activities than school and childcare can be ordered via the police's e-service.

Merits

  • Knowledge of ancient crafts and experience in craft demonstrations
  • Language skills beyond Swedish and English, especially German
  • Driver's license - own car is an advantage.

Other

We strive for an even gender and age distribution and see diversity as a strength, where our employees' differences enrich and develop the operations.
